One on One Tutoring
The power and impact of one on one tutoring is undeniable. At Next Level Up we view each student holistically by considering who they are as individuals, what makes them tick, and what their interests are. We use a personalized approach to match the ideal tutor to each student. It starts with a free consultation where we direct the majority of our energy towards the student in order to learn the most about their struggles, goals, and expectations.
Our tutors' holistic approach continuously assesses students throughout each session, working diligently to figure out where the gaps are, and what areas need the most improvement. This allows them to know what message to push, and what area to focus on for next session.
Next Level Up always keeps an eye on the academic coaching piece as well, those executive functioning areas (time management, organization, planning, and prioritizing) that can have such an impact on reaching success in school and beyond. No student is the same. Every tutoring plan must be individualized. If necessary, the plan will be adjusted week to week.
We take the idea of becoming a lifelong learner seriously. We aim to find that positive note in a student's life, and build on it by helping them make the connection to the benefit of prioritizing and doing well in school. By providing much needed perspective during each session, ALL students start to see things more clearly and take school more seriously. Our oldest daughter was struggling with math at the beginning of 8th grade-she was lost and in tears at what she felt was not being "as smart as the other kids". We had tried traditional tutoring in the past and found it lacking. We then moved on to looking at switching her to a private school for the more personal attention and smaller class sizes. That seemed like a rash reaction so we began exploring "academic coaching" for both of our daughters and this is how we stumbled upon Next Level Up. We called and left a message on a Saturday morning and Todd called us Sunday afternoon. He matched our daughters with Kristen, who designed a tailored plan specific to each girl that went above and beyond helping with homework and clarifying concepts from school. Kristen taught them to own their academic success, helping them build effective study habits. She also taught them the twin powers of preparation and organization and that it is never to early to begin preparing and organizing for a report, presentation or a test. These last two habits seemed to be the secret sauce for them in terms of reducing the anxiety and swirl that comes with this type of classwork, especially for girls juggling extra curricular activities and budding social lives. Kristen was also incredibly flexible and generous with her time which my oldest daughter took full advantage of, arranging multiple short sessions in a week to prepare in advance for an upcoming test or presentation. At the end of the school year, both daughters brought their grades up to consistent As* in all classes but more so, came away with confidence that they own their academic success. And that is the peace of mind that my husband and I wanted. Achieving good grades is certainly appealing, but what Todd and his team at Next Level Up did for my girls is much more lasting in that it helped them build confidence in themselves and their abilities which they can transfer to any endeavor in life.

The idea is to meet the parents and student in person in order to obtain as much information as possible to help come up with the best tutor match. Regardless of the student's age, it is important for him or her to be involved in the process and take ownership right from the beginning since it is all about him or her.
HOW DO WE FIND THE IDEAL MATCH?
There are many factors we take into consideration. They range from the age and gender of the student, personality type, interests, academic strengths and weaknesses, location, and availability.
WHO ARE THE TUTORS THAT WORK WITH NEXT LEVEL UP?
All coaches hired by Next Level Up have either a Master's degree, teaching certification, or are currently enrolled in a Graduate school program. Each tutor also must possess 3-5 years of one on one tutoring experience.
DO NEXT LEVEL UP ACADEMIC COACHES PROVIDE MATERIALS?
Yes. However, since we base the majority of the sessions off of the student's current classroom concepts and curriculum, we encourage all students to bring their classroom textbooks, notes, practice sheets, essays, and old quizzes/tests with them to each session. Our coaches do bring plenty of extra practice with them.
